White House Promotion, Propaganda, And Healthy Fast Food? It's All Natural!
Old fashioned deception, just as in the old photo above... can be obvious as well as silly. Something occurred in the media recently that brings attention to the 'tactic of deception' which is commonly used upon the public at large. Before we talk about the national news event, I'd like you to view the first video below. It is a fun parody of advertising companies that create propaganda for processed food producers. Making a number of great points, this video is key to watch before getting to the 'real life' videos lower down on this blog post, which concern a promotional event held by a government celebrity. First Lady Michelle Obama promotes fast food as the answer to our health problems. How "natural."
So... lets talk 'all natural' first. It's as meaningless as 'gluten-free' water. Transitioning off processed foods for a couple of years now, we like to explain that we are mostly all organic and GMO free. We don't say we are 'all natural.' That would be ludicrous. Reading labels and researching what we eat has resulted in much better health, losing weight, and even reversing disease. After learning what the mega-corporations have been up to the past century I don't believe everything I am told. Some American stories may die hard, but die they must, in order to live. Many know so little about what they put into their body.
Being ill sucks! I know. My body has been a processed food victim. I, like other Americans, was ignorant to the cause of my pain. Now that I am aware I see the effects of processed foods upon others daily. The abundance of toxic, processed, no nutrient foods, that people eat all day, every day, is killing them. Like many of my generation the lure of the processed food paradigm is how we were trained from birth. It made an impression on our minds as children who generally do not question the television, or adults. There it begins... get the children hooked and you have customers for life. The result has been that obesity and disease have skyrocketed in our children, as well as ourselves. Cancer is rampant in the young and old. The greedy corporate owners sold us empty calories and toxic fake foods through advertising, psychology, and the belief that all we really are is "consumers." Addictive craving is purposely built into the paradigm, it's called fat, sugar, salt, MSG, and any food chemical that will work. See my post here about that mess. They hook you on fake food that is created in labs and call them "all natural." Many hear or see the word natural, and assume that food must be better than the other brand. "Natural" means absolutely nothing except perhaps the food is even more dangerous to consume. Clever words such as "natural flavorings" cover hidden ingredients like chemicals and MSG. Watch the video below and enjoy!
I just LOVED that video! 200% natural! Absolute perfection! A good sense of humor can bring attention to important issues when done well. This one is a winner! Please share that video with your friends and family! The next subject is the 'Subway restaurant' promotion pushed by the White House. Pay attention to the words chosen in the clip of that national news event below. Moms are made out to be adults who cannot handle the preparation of road food, so let's give up on even trying to plan our healthy meal or snack options. Give in and go to a fast food restaurant instead, since your kids must be whining. Better yet... go the 'brand" we promote. Subway and Pepsico to the rescue!
Really, is that what it takes??? As someone who does try to promote a healthier food lifestyle I say instead: Consider buying fresh whole organic foods, grow your own pesticide free foods, eat at home, make your lunch for work, and bring your own healthy snacks for time in the car. Eating questionable foods on the road should be a last resort. Know your area. Find the organic, vegan, vegetarian, farm to table, sustainable, restaurant alternatives for when you have to eat on the run. Visit a Co-op, Farmers Market, or a Whole Foods type food market and make a salad when on vacation too. Fast food is not what comes to mind when I think of how to change our food paradigm to create healthy children and families.
Fast food and packaged convenience foods are a major cause of our ills. Disease, obesity and cancer often result from that sad processed food world. It just does not work as the answer to promote more of the same. How do I know? Just by switching to organic whole foods, I and others have created huge changes towards better health including reversing diabetes. Shipping mass amounts of processed conventional food stuffs across our country, and the world, involves chemicals. Lots of toxic chemicals... and pesticides. Corporations have known for decades about the problems that this fake food creates for human health. Yet this unhealthy lifestyle is chosen to represent needed change. The rich celebrities we see endorsing fast food do not really eat there, they generally eat at the restaurants in town that cater to the wealthy. Here comes a first lady who supposedly represents healthier choices and concern for our children promoting fast food too.... Oh No! As a grandma I am, "So disapointed in you." It's business as usual making huge amounts of money selling convenience food. If you reached out to a nation of children and adults to get them healthier, would you promote a questionable fast food brand that also sells junk snax and soda for another multi-national company?
Is that particular restaurant chain the best America can do when it comes to fast food? My memories of eating at Subway are the time spent in the bathroom the next day. The list is long concerning the problems with promoting this choice to reach children. Personally I think this is a shrewd marketing ad campaign pretending to be a public service for Subway and Pepsico. My first thought was, who did this corporation give some big bucks to? Then I see they have an agreement to spend 41 million dollars promoting healthy foods? More ads for junk fake foods? Give me a break! I thought the organic garden campaign was a good idea, "move your body" was a good idea, but fast processed foods... not so much. Who is deceiving who? And why?
Anyway, you got great words like "all natural," and hubby's favorites "premium" and "deluxe" to describe your processed food choices! Can I have a little "Mega" with that please? Isn't that all we really need to sustain our bodies? Conveniently located purveyors of questionable food made from questionable ingredients.
Really? No thank you. Nothing good ever comes from not telling the truth. I am 'naturally' offended. There is no benefit to children's health from promoting more corporate food lies. The Queen is not amused.
I know many moms who have no problem making organic whole food lunches and snacks to keep their children happy at home and on the road. I think we are smarter than this corporate promotional propaganda gobbledygook. Add your voice to a conversation that is needed in our country about our everyday food choices. I invite you to spread the word my friends. Promote organic, and support those restaurants and markets who sell organic products and whole foods. (A note from 10 years into the future.... They will be vomiting the word "Protein" all over packaging. When what they should be concerned about is FIBER. Also 2025 sucks really badly.) Be happy. Be healthy. Be peace.

Got Questions? New Get Started / FAQ Page For Transition To Organic Plants Is Up! Plus The Top Ten Food Protocol Basics!
Food assumptions too? Heck yeah! Most people do. That is how we were trained by media and advertising to think about our industrialized food stuffs! Hopefully I got your answers right here on my reworked 'Get Started/FAQ Page!' After nearly two years on the healthy food path I have come to know the frequently asked questions most people have about the nutrient dense, plant strong, lifestyle. Since the old 'Get Started' page was not organized very well it was time for a big change! I needed to update how I handle all the questions you may naturally have, and get you on the road to wellness easily. How to do it? The simple TOP TEN Protocol Basics that the Queen follows everyday. The TOP 16 things to do while on transition to a healthier way of eating called the 'OVERVIEW.' ...and FAQ'S baby! Freakin' FAQ's!!!
Trying to get you to think about everyday food in a new way, and give you the answers to what you may mistakenly assume about organic foods, was the much needed FAQ part. Hopefully I do answer what you may be thinking. If not, please let me know what good questions to add. This huge labor of love has taken two months to complete! My hubby helped to code the page so that the questions can be clicked on, and then you will be taken directly down to my answer or opinion on each subject. He's cool like that. For some unknown reason the links do not work on mobile devices, and those of you who read web pages on phones will have to scroll down. This is more than you can read with a phone sized mobile device anyway, and you may consider using a laptop or desktop to get the knowledge effortlessly.
Making food choices through the 'Good/Better/Best' paradigm will be a simple way to assimilate an easier change in eating. In my passionate quest to help you understand the importance of everyday food choices upon your health, I have included a section with Dr. Fuhrman's recommendations, plus assorted related topic videos from other health researchers. I hope you will consider doing what is healthier for you and your family. Changing your food lifestyle now will save you money and grief in the long run. Don't wait till you are as sick as I was when I started! The body clock is ticking for dealing with the constant incoming toxins of processed and conventional foods.
After redoing my 'About Page' I really felt the pull to finish The Queen's Table Get Started/FAQ Page. This required design and illustration to break up the body copy of the page, plus it was a lot of information to cover. So I hope you actually go visit the the brand new page and read over the topics! It is there to guide you. Feel free to share with anyone you know that may benefit from the knowledge.
Now I have to get back to doing some website work for my hubby's biz over the next few months. Then afterwards I will continue to take each of my blog pages, and update the look as well as the information. A few smaller pages have already been reworked for style. I'll still be doing my regular QT blog and facebook posts. As always please continue to do research about what you are really eating, and do not rely solely on me. I am a seeker on my own journey, and this way has worked for me and others. You must always do what is best for your body, mind, and Spirit. I believe in your personal power. Get out there and Get Started! Rock your food sovereignty and health! "Let food be thy medicine." - Hippocrates

It's CSA Season! What Exactly Is A CSA Anyway? Inquiring Bellies Want To Know!
![]() |
It's food...Glorious food!
This post is for those who have been asking,"What exactly is a CSA?" Perhaps you wonder what the heck people are talking about when they refer those three letters. CSA means 'Community Supported Agriculture.' This is a way for you to work directly with the farmer who grows your food. I think that is awesome!
Other than growing your own food this is the best way to know and control the quality of the food you consume every day! You pay a fee up front in order to get a weekly supply of fresh produce called a "share." It is just that simple, and the benefits to your health are tremendous. Get directly involved with your food, don't let it be just a commodity in a box, or a can, any longer. You will love your new earthy relationship and you may make a few friends along the way!
On this post I will share photos of our various weekly CSA hauls living on the east coast, and also those of a relative in another nearby state. Foods will vary over the season, this is what has been growing around the mid-Atlantic region each week during this month.

Each week's produce that you will receive will depend on what is in season, or what your farmer chooses to grow. Some CSA farmers are completely organic, and others call themselves sustainable. It is up to you to research the farming methods of the farm you employ for your food. We found our local farm through the 'Local Harvest' website where you put in your zip code and they will let you know what farms and farmers markets are available in your area. They have charts of information about each farm including growing information. Then you research each one from that point and contact them directly. The sign-up to become a CSA member usually happens at the beginning or end of the year. Some farmers offer partial shares, half-shares, or full shares of their weekly offerings. If you still want to participate and join after the season has started just call around to your local farms and see if that is still possible.

| Various shades of lettuce await their turn to go home with someone. |
You will also find that some CSA farms may have longer growing seasons, some may cost more than others, some may give you bigger shares, some may include egg, pork, chicken, beef, dairy products, homemade items as well along with the weekly produce. There are a variety of options to consider in making your final choice. Each situation is different, and you need to decide what options are right for your family, and choose a farm that meets your needs in any of these areas. In our specific area, our CSA farmer had the longest growing season, the most variety, and was certified organic, all for a reasonable price. We emailed him, met him in person at a local farmers market, and in addition I had read some articles he had written. I loved the way he thought about food and farming issues. All of those qualities came together to make him our personal farmer. We are very happy with Farmer Tom and his dedication, plus he is a very cool dude! Rock on Farmer Tom!
Many CSA farms have a newsletter, or a website that will inform you about the produce you will be getting that week. They may also speak about how the produce was grown, give you some recipes, and tell stories about what's happening at the farm. It's a new sense of belonging to a food community. You must also keep in mind that the farm and produce are tied to the weather, and things may happen both good or bad during the growing season. You learn compassion for your farmer spending long days bent over in the fields or wrestling with pests. You understand the work it takes to grow your food, and get it to you fresh picked and vibrating with life. I am including a video at the end of this post that does a great job explaining the CSA experience, so please take a look if you are considering this way of adding to your food paradigm.

| Farm fresh eggs from actual free range chickens. |
Last year we shared the experience with my daughter's family to get to know how a CSA worked and share the expense. Going to the farm makes for a great family outing, I always enjoy the drive and can't wait to see what goodies are waiting each week. Some of the veggies are in bins, some in the refrigerator, and others in a cooler. We take along a large bag and in the heat of summer we bring a cooler bag too.
Some farms have pick up points in a few different towns, some are just at the farm itself, some may have pick up at the local farmers market, and others may have a home delivery service. So "pick-up" will depend on the farm's method.
If you are assigned a 'pick up day' by your CSA you can pick-up your food during most of that day, which covers stopping by after work to get your share. Our farm has a choice of one of two pick up days available. We found the pick-up day at the beginning of the week worked best for us, because of my husband's gig schedule on the weekends. That way we have time to use the produce immediately, instead of getting the food share later in the week where it might get wasted, because of a crazy weekend schedule where we were constantly on the road.

| Our granddaughter last year marveling at the greenhouse. |
This year it is just the two of us getting the weekly share, and we find the amount of produce we get now works out nicely. Although I do miss going to the farm with my grandchildren and sharing the farm experience together. Our girl could not wait to get out of the car and check it all out!

Going into our second year of the CSA I can tell you that we really value our farmer, as he does everything organic, and has total commitment to that goal. We feel fortunate to have someone who really cares about the quality of the food we eat. He has a number of greenhouses on his property which allow for a longer growing season than some other CSA's in our area, and he also teams up with another nearby organic farm that produces chicken, egg, turkey and pork shares if that is desired. Most of the time when we pick up our share at the farm we can see Farmer Tom out in the fields working. On occasion we get to speak with him, and we enjoy these times to chat and hear how he is doing.

Your fresh produce is going to be so full of flavor! Those little local strawberries are one hundred times tastier than those crazy nuclear sized pieces of cardboard that are sold at the supermarket! Lots of variety is coming your way from the CSA too! In fact a cool thing about being part of a CSA is you may receive veggies n' herbs you have never even seen before! Wow! This is a wondrous part of the local farm fresh food adventure! It is so fun to try new foods and learn how to prepare the new dishes. Most of the time you will love these new produce items, so don't be afraid... be brave and go beyond the sweet corn.
Remember that you want your produce to come from nearby to where you live. Industrial food products travel 1500 miles to get to your local store. That is why it is important to buy and eat local...freshness! Be a locavore, support small business, and farmers! Always make sure the farms are organic, or at the least follow sustainable farming practices, because pesticides, fungicides, antibiotics, and hormones are the same toxins, even if they are in local produce, meat or dairy. You can also look for various places to get local grass-fed meats and dairy at the website Eat Wild.
If you cannot afford to join a CSA, perhaps you can go in on a share with someone else to split the cost, or grow your own food, (see my page called "Grow Food" above this post), or join a community garden, or you can certainly frequent local farmers markets. Some farmers markets will accept the SNAP program.
We know in order to get the most nutrients it is important to eat your greens like broccoli and other veggies within a day or two of being picked. That cannot happen at the supermarket. So getting your food from a CSA, a farmers market, a community garden, or in your own backyard garden, is the way to get the most healing goodness out of your food. That is what we are always aiming for when filling our belly...the power of "Nutrient Density!" The food is delicious, you will be assured it is grown locally and in our case fully organic with well thought out sustainable practices. Plus you will feel great knowing you are supporting a local farmer who really cares. With all the latest scientific evidence pointing to the major pesticides and GMO's being the reason behind so many of our modern illnesses you simply must begin to accept organic as the first pillar to healing your body. There's probably a CSA in your area, check it out!
Watch the video above, grab your bags, and get that healthy fresh produce from your local farm and farmer into your bellies! You will really love farm life... Yes......"Green acres is the place to be....."
(If you know that song I just gave you a wicked ear worm! haha!)

Small Town America Says No To GMO's!
Small town, big city, or large country ... we all have something in common... we are saying "No!" the the take over of the Earth's natural foods by the biotech company Monsanto. This was evident when the citizens of the world came together on May 25th to show that they are fed up with the toxic GMO's that were sneaked into the food supply about 15 years ago. The rallies were held in 52 countries and 436 cities including the United States. My husband and I traveled to the center of a small nearby town, to partake, petition, and witness the goodness of everyday people standing up in public saying "enough!" Our heart was warmed by the wonderful local turnout last Saturday of participants carrying their message in person, along with the beeping of horns from passing cars giving solidarity to the 'No GMO,' or 'Label GMO's' message. This grass roots movement about the state of our modern food concerns us all, and is one of the most important issues of our time. So very exciting to see everyday citizens saying NO to GMO's!
The word is getting out about these toxic foods, and that is such a powerful thing! It is actually the best part of where we are in the GMO paradigm right now. We are growing in numbers! It is becoming understood by more and more people that organic whole foods allow the body to heal, and that we need to remove the dangerous processed corporate GMO foods from our lives that have been causing our sickness.
We witnessed concerned people of every age group holding thoughtfully written signs about this topic. There were moms with babies, school age children, dads, grandparents, single people, married people, families, and young adults in attendance. These people gathered on each corner in the center of town to bring attention to Monsanto's ongoing plan for our food, and spread the knowledge of the dangers we face from that company every day.
This was not a one sided political rally, this was a diverse group of people that came together in peace for a basic right of life... food safety for all. What a concept... Did you ever think we would get to the point in this country where we have to go out to protest and rally about food safety? If we love our families, children, grandchildren, and ourselves, then that is exactly what we will do. Together... we are even stronger.
All legislative bills and laws on any subject these days are written by the exact industry in question. You didn't really think congressman and senators were sitting up at night writing these things did you? Oh no, they are way too busy having lunch and making appointments with lobbyists to think about you. Unfortunately about 95% of our government representatives eagerly support whatever their corporate campaign sponsors tell them to do and say. They take their pre-written papers from their masters that are filled with new laws, bills, and amendments to 'the committee'. This is standard operating practice in America. There are companies and foundations that do this bill writing job for our representatives on a state and national level. Learn about the group called "Alec" here. If Monsanto felt it was worth spending 46 million to stop Prop 37 in California in order to spread their lies... imagine what Monsanto lobbyists have spent on our government representatives in the Congress, Senate and White House over the years.
We have a government of puppet-heads, and most of our citizens don't consider that the unseen puppet-masters even exist. Political parties are a big theatrical puppet dance meant to distract us. All of this pandering of our elected representatives to corporations and lobbyists does not bode well for us, the citizens, who are seen as the lowly unimportant taxpayers. That is until we bring our numbers together to vote these fakers out of office, because they are not good for us now, or 'our vision' of the future. So happy to see more people taking an active part in speaking out and taking positive action!
So let's take away the politicians' corporate gravy train. On this particular issue we know who the puppet masters are...Monsanto. Members of that company have been appointed to the very regulatory agencies that oversee the biotech industry time and again. Vote out the people in government who put this company in the power seats of the FDA and USDA.
Vote with your dollars at the food market. Right now there is even discussion that Monsanto has made it legal to put GMO foods into organic products... so avoiding the food store altogether may be in the future. Till then we do the best we can and buy organic, get our foods from a local CSA, and grow your own food. We go to restaurants and markets that sell organic whole foods. We support organic farmers and farmers markets. We buy heirloom organic seeds. This is an issue we can do something about in many different ways, including coming together to rally and show we care enough to be the change we want to see! On this day the entire world came together to create change. That is an act of love.
Think about this: A known war chemical company is making food products, and buying up all the seed companies in the world. They want us to believe they are helping the poor and starving people. When the biotech industry states everything is hunky-dory with GMO's, that they are completely safe, and that they are creating genetically modified food crops to save the world...do you believe them? I doubt you believe the green little picture they like to paint of themselves. Personally I think the Earth was just fine before all the chemical companies messed with plants, water, air, people, and most living things.
The truth is that this story that they are "saving the poor starving people" is the number one lie that they trot out in their media propaganda every single time. Spot that red flag next time they are in the news, and then ask the farmers in India how that's working for them...it isn't. Modern farmers need to use "more" pesticides not less, because this poison stuff does not work as stated. In addition this technology creates super-weeds. Terminator seed technology....real friendly to the indigenous people of the world and our local farmers, don't ya think. Then there is the extremely important issue of the pesticides killing the bees that pollinate our food supply! How much more wonderfulness can we take from this oh so green caring touchy-feely company?
As for me, I am not interested in eating plants with insecticides built right inside, and then sprayed with more insecticides on the outside while they are growing. A double whammy. Who wants to eat foods from those thoughtful people who created Agent Orange, DDT, PCB's and Aspartame? Sadly they actually are in most of the processed foods already on the supermarket shelves. Please buy organic and avoid 'the yuck' as the colorful young child's sign near the top of this post states.
The local paper gave a good amount of space to the rallies that were going to happen locally and around world, against GMO technology. The newspaper like many other media outlets also felt the need to copy and paste "the lie" too, along with a sanitized explanation of a genetically modified organism. Most AP news outlets repeated the same talking points.
Check out the CNN video above, a mix of good commentary, and Monsanto propaganda.
Hey, there is 'The Queen' out on the street on a beautiful sunny day collecting handouts and bumper stickers about GMO's. Imagine that! A "Shout Out" to those good compassionate folks who got the permits and organized the event! It should be noted that there was a police officer on all four corners, and everyone was friendly, happy, and able to express their right to rally in a peaceful manner. Just the way it should be in America.
Sadly the many people who do not even know what a GMO is at all, would probably believe the Monsanto lies, because they accept what ever is put in front of them called "news." In the CNN video above they cite a group called the 'European Food Safety Authority' (EFSA) as the ones finding the science behind the 'tumors in the rats fed GMO's' lacking. As per unusual, that very group, the EFSA, has ties with the biotech industry. (See this article here.) Do you see how this whole thing works for any corporation? They have front groups to try and hide the truth from the public. In this case the research is controlled by Monsanto, and they use only their own scientists and findings. Monsanto does not allow anyone else to do research on their patented seed products anyway.
Whistle-blowers are condemned, fired, and then banned from the industry. Corporations control universities now, and thus can control the outcome of so called scientific findings of any topic of importance to the public. This is the current protocol in every area of concern to our world. Learn to see through the tactics and do your research. Watch the film trailer above for "Scientists Under Attack" and see how it is done in the biotech industry. Plus read this article by a former pro-GMO scientist who now speaks out against Genetically engineered food.
This is why it is important to keep spreading the information into public awareness every way you can. Talk to friends and family around mealtime. Talk about it on facebook, in tweets, on blogs, at school, in the workplace, and at the supermarket. Knowledge is the power. That is why this rally and others like it in the future are important. People notice and ask questions. Get GMO's into the conversation. Share the information, and the websites, so your friends and family can learn more about all the health and environmental issues related to this topic. I think people will be upset to learn that this has been happening to them without their knowledge and consent. I know I was! Write to food companies and food stores. Let them know what you are thinking.
I am grateful to all the organizers of this event both local and worldwide! Thank you!

Visit My Cancer Prevention Ideas Page For Help, Health, And Hope
Things have been hectic around the castle lately, and will continue that way for a few more weeks. Hubby has upcoming hernia surgery, and has really been feeling the negative effects from the problem. So I have been going to all his gigs to help move the equipment, and drive him around. I don't have much time to devote to creating posts right now. In my spare time I have been cleaning up and reorganizing my cancer prevention page. I put together this highly informative page for cancer patients and their loved ones. You can click on the bold link, or find it in the above page list just under the blog header.
Receiving a breast cancer diagnosis myself last May, I know all too well some of the events and feelings that arise. Being on the other side of that diagnosis I would like to share the many ways that I create health for my own body, mind, and Spirit. I hope I can be of some service to those who may also face a very scary cancer moment in time. Maybe you just might find a few helpful ideas of how to live through this or any other crisis. There are videos, websites, and inspiring people included on this vast resource page for cancer patients. Please consider sending those who might benefit from this insight, to my 'Cancer Prevention Ideas' page now or in the future. There is no judgement on what ever anyone decides to do for their own cancer care. I just would like to make people aware of the many options that could be added to create a new mixed protocol of action. You do not need to agree with any of my opinions on any subject, just know these are the things I do to create a healthy, happier me.
Even if you do not have cancer at this time you should be proactive, and visit this page to learn how NOT to turn your cancer cells on. We live in a toxic world where carcinogens come at us from plastic products, chemicals that are everywhere, processed foods, medicine, medical treatments, the workplace, household products, personal care products, and other poisoned junk. Now add to that the hazards of the polluted air, land, and water. The modern world can be a cocktail for disaster when you combine all of these things together. In addition to these problems, our modern bodies are depleted of the vital nutrients from the intake of fake processed foods. This leaves us without the natural resources that build our vitality and health. Our industrial model tends to isolate and separate ingredients as if just that one thing is the magic pill. Compare that to the complexity of nature layering many nutrients and key ingredients together in one whole food, made for perfect digestion in our human bodies. Mother nature knows best.
We will also need to address areas of our life beyond medicine and food. Especially if we want to side step making radical cells, or heal our selves from cancer cells that we already have lurking in our bodies. The only way to make it happen is if we take responsibility for our life, and change our ways. After all, what we were doing before was obviously not working. These suggestions that I list help all manner of problems within the body. Remember you do not have to stay sick, and you can reverse much illness, and FEEL better. Look over the following list of the topics that I cover on the cancer page that will expand your knowledge of healing methods that are specifically helpful to cancer patients.

The Story Of Cheese... And Salt... Sugar... and Fat... Oh My!
Did you watch the entire video above? So how did you like that piece of information? Lots-o-cheese got shoved into our lives for a different reason than you thought. Put's a new spin on why some of the processed foods are lurking on your supermarket shelves. Cheese became an "ingredient" because the government had caves full of cheese leftover from the dairy industry creating "fat free" milk. So just when you thought you were avoiding fat by drinking fat free milk the dairy industry sold you on the idea you must be eating more cheese! There are many curious stories surrounding the sick sad world of modern industrialized food. The CEO's do not eat their own food. Many of them get their food from organic farms. If you start to watch food documentaries, and read a few food books, you will sadly learn the truth about what you really are putting into your body, as well as the bodies of those you love. Knowledge is power...and to have power over your old eating habits, you need information you can use about the true story behind the "food stuffs" at your local supermarket. Eating does not only involve your mouth, tongue, and stomach. It involves your mind. Mind over matter. Mind over cheese. Is it possible to change our minds about what a friend calls "The gift from the Gods and food heaven" Cheeeeeeeeeeese?
Cheese is such a little thing in life. Or is it? Think about how many foods you have been eating since you were a child with cheese included. Hey, would you like extra cheese on that pizza? I am survivor of eating those cheese stuffed pretzels, peanut butter cheese crackers, cheese steaks, cheese fries, cheese dips, grilled cheese sandwiches, ham and cheese, cheese puffs, cheese omelets, and the list goes on and on. So cheese is not a little thing after all... It was and is, a big freakin' part of our modern lives! The average person now eats 33 pounds of cheese a year. Geezzz Cheeeeeeeese!
Most people look at me now, living my nutrient dense plant eating lifestyle, and say, "I cannot do that... I cannot give up cheese!" Well let me be honest... cheese was the very very last item to go of my unhealthy favorite foods. Little cans of dripping cheese for nachos was my go to comfort food of choice every week for years. Even when I finally gave up the canned cheese to get off processed foods, I then switched to "organic" mozzarella and provolone for a few months. Still I was loving the cheese, as this was during my transition and learning time, and that is okay. Not only did the eventual knowledge of what I was really eating change my mind, but my new and improved taste buds eventually rejected anything oily. So it was my taste buds that decided there would be no more cheese for me. This was a natural outcome of actually tasting and experiencing real food. When I first went into transition, I would often take the time to ask myself to really experience on all levels what I was putting in my mouth. What was the actual taste? What was the texture? What did I like about it? Those little questions worked every time. Try it yourself! Really experience the taste and the texture rolling around in your mouth and on your tongue. Talk to yourself! haha! Ask your self those questions. You might be surprised. I tried this with fast food chicken nuggets last year. Never ate them again. No problem.
For me cheese started to taste like oily rubber. It was tasteless. A big chewy blobby gob. Liquid cheese became an oooey-gooey oily smear. This was no longer food to me. Now imagine this chewy blob going down through your body. Oh my! Let's not even go into the awful things it does to your intestinal pipes. Surely I don't have to tell you about what it does to your arteries. Let's take a handful of that ooey gooey glob and shove it in a pipe. I definitely think it will stop the flow of whatever wants to move through the pipe. Now that's the picture to keep in your head, as you eat cheese. Your friendly giant corporations and your corporate government would like you to clog all the pipes in your body. This result helps their friend big Pharma. Win, Win, for them. Not so nice for you.
Salt, sugar, fat, Oh My! These ingredients may each be different, but the results are about the same...they are dangerous to your health! Yet you will find them eagerly waiting for you in just about every processed food at the supermarket, and in an over abundance. You are, or were, addicted to this stuff. Yes, that's the trick of it, and that's the corporate plan for you, and your friends. "They" have got to get those chemical laden foodstuffs to last for months or even years on the store shelves. And they have got to get you to buy that old stuff! So "they" just add any of the fat, sugar, salt, combinations they scientifically know you desire, to that cardboard food fakery, and people really do believe it tastes great. The industry calls it the "Bliss Point." Yes food is the drug, and don't bother thinking abut the cumulative effect from doing this everyday for years and years to your body. This magical food is a wonderful convenience too. You have no time to cook, or think... Right? Well, they count on that. Just grab and go, and believe us that it's safe. They have been convincing you of this idea all your life.
This insider information can be found in a new book titled "Salt, Sugar, Fat: How The Food Giants Hooked Us" which shares how the food industry leaders have been intoxicating you into a life of unhealthy eating. Ingredients are maximized to addict you to these foods, and get you to be a 'heavy user' of the commodity. The book is written by The New York Times Investigative Reporter and Pulitzer Prize Winner Michael Moss. It was Michael who made the informative video above about the story of cheese. I love that cheesy video!
Are donuts and pizza what grew on trees hundreds of years ago? Oh modern packaged foods, why do people think you are the only thing to eat? Alas so many people strangely believe food comes in a box, can, or a bag, and that product which has been on shelves in warehouses for months is better than the real thing. This belief in fake food stuffs has been systematically done over generations. Look at the old ads above. A good documentary to watch about this subject is "Hungry For Change."
Yes I realize there are those who see my new healthy lifestyle choices as extreme or odd. How did we get to the point where people think that the real food that grows on trees, or up from the ground, is the weirdo stuff? Marketing 101 folks. Look...there is an entire aisle in the food store dedicated to soda. Soda is pure empty calories, and diet soda is actually dangerous. In every food store across the nation there are cases upon cases of soda... a mixture of sugar water, high fructose corn syrup...chemicals that rot the brain and cause disease. Watch any sporting event and what do you see? Soda and Beer commercials. Ironically those are the products I literally grew up surrounded by, as my father was a beer and soda distributor. I played among the boxes in the warehouse as a child. We always had a large supply of soda in every flavor at our house, including blue soda. I loved it. As a teen I thought the color was cool and the taste was sweet. Good...right? What did I know, I only learned what I lived. It took informing and arming myself with the truth about the food industrial complex to get unhooked from the monster. This new book talks about a famous company that in its quest to rapidly increase profits would like us to drink more soda than water. No, it's not really to make your life more beautiful, or give the world a hug. It's your money for nothing, money for sickness in a bottle. I am the weirdo for saying that.
Oh I can hear the naysayers now. Don't say I can't eat soda, diet soda, cheese, and my salty n' sugary snax (also owned by the same soda companies). For goodness sakes, how will I live? "No, I cannot. I will not. It is not possible."
Transitioning off of processed foods is a continual process of letting go of the old ways, it is not all or nothing, or all done at one time. Don't give up on 'you getting healthier' for a false idea of 'what you think' the restrictions will be. Use my 'Substitution' and 'Avoid' pages to get started, and help you to move away from addictive processed food stuffs. How about saying, "I cannot live being fat and sick everyday," or "I cannot live sticking myself with an insulin needle," or "I cannot live taking copious pills everyday to live," or "I cannot live having my chest cut open by a surgeon," or "I cannot live with the huge doctor and hospital bills I will have to pay from eating cheap junk everyday," or "I can not live... if I am dead..."
We do need to change our 'mindset' about sugar, salt and fats. These are the ingredients that damage all parts of our bodies, cause disease, and eventually kill people. After my cancer diagnosis Dr. Furhman told me no more dairy, sugar, salt, oil, or meat products. I had serious disease, and I have to get serious with what I eat. It was not hard for me, because I had already been transitioning off of these addictive foods for months. Perhaps if I had gotten my breast cancer diagnosis months before, it may have seemed like a devastating thought to not eat cheese anymore from that point on. Fortunately I had already replaced the old salty and sweet snacks with many new options, and that list keeps growing! Since I already knew and experienced far tastier foods, I had no problem with his statement. One out of three people will get a cancer diagnosis, perhaps it would be good for you to consider making changes now before you endure a medical crisis. So hang in there! Just give yourself time to try the new things to eat that are the healthier options. Try something new each week, and get rid of something old each week. I have been there and done this, over time it gets easier. The first week or two may be difficult. Just get yourself a bunch of new options to put in your pantry and refrigerator. Eventually you will actually be craving the new whole foods too. Instead of processed foods being 70% of our diet, how about making them just 20% instead. Does that seem doable?
Less cheese is a start. I use nutritional yeast and hemp seeds on my veggie filled naan pizzas now instead of the old style cheese. We love it! For my hubby's part, he temporarily ate goat cheese with crackers when he felt a need for cheese, until he gave it up as well. This seems to be a better alternative for those in transition, as it's drier and not oily like processed cheese foods. Dairy from cows contains too much fat, hormones, antibiotics, micro plastics, and possibly GMO's from the feed they ingest. Dairy creates inflammation in the body. Since the body has to deal with the inflammation, the body does not have the time to do the work of keeping you well by fighting off other things...it's too busy with cheeeeese.
Anyway after 14 months if I eat any products with fat or oil in them. I can now feel the oil coating my mouth. You know, it's that same feeling you get in your mouth after you've eaten some greasy fast food fries, especially if they were cold. As the body becomes clean, I have found that it will let you know the dirty low down naturally! Certainly makes it easy to get yourself to eat even cleaner. I had to recently stop eating my favorite lentil chips, because I can now feel the oil.
Sugar and salt and fats! Oh my! So how is your food future looking? Do you think it is time for you to stop the corporate madness, and your addiction to their fake foods? Knowledge is truly your power. Read about how they got you hooked, and give up the conditioning. Watch some food documentaries. Begin cutting back, and then eventually eliminating, and replacing these unhealthy choices. Start substituting alternatives each week for your family, till you have only the healthy choices in the house. It works. I was in the grocery store with my four year old grand daughter recently. I pointed out the display of big Honeycrisp apples. She walked right over, picked one up, and took a big bite out of it! Right there in the store! THAT is exactly how a child is supposed to react to seeing healthy real food! I loved it!
Being that this blog is for people in various stages of transitioning from the regular supermarket processed foods, I will not leave you with a broken heart about your processed snack love-life. You will still find on my recipe page a naan pizza that uses organic cheese. On my shopping list page I included a list of package foods at the bottom of the post that we have used. There are organic non-GMO chips and crackers you can eat on occasion, or during your transitioning phase. For example I happen to like Garden of Eatin blue sprouted chips, Seedlander crackers, and Mary's flax crackers when I need some crunch. For sweet snax I like Organic Fruit and Nut bars, and Go Raw's mini Carrot Cake Super Cookies. So your packaged snack life is not over, they always make something new! But it is not a pass to gorge on this stuff either. When you visit your local organic snack aisle be sure to read the back labels of even the organic processed foods. Look out for the sugar, salt, oils, fats, chemicals, soy, carrageenan, and msg. The least amount of ingredients the better. Big corporations are behind many national organic labels. Make sure it has the green USDA organic label and hopefully says Non-GMO as well. Always be aware of what you are putting in as the fuel for your wonderful body. This is what gets you around in life, you would not run your car on soda and fat. So why do it with your most important vehicle.
Having fresh fruit, and a small handful of unsalted nuts everyday is a healthier alternative to cheesy puffs. Instead of cheese, use salsa or hummus with your chips. Instead of chips use celery and carrots for dipping. Need ice cream? Freeze a ripe banana for 24 hours, mash it up, and add berries or nuts. Get a Ninja Creami machine. You can be sure that I will be eating a vibrant colorful helping of fresh high nutrient organic plants, enjoying fresh green smoothies, and green juices too. That's deliciousness for real. No chemicals. No extra salt, sugar, or fat needed. Natural sweetness! I hope you consider giving up the excess salt, sugar and fat in your life, and getting out of the unhealthy corporate paradigm! Eat real whole foods most of the time, be healthy, and glow. I'm not a perfect eater. Don't put that pressure on yourself. Although if we are what we eat, ...I'd rather be a peach than a blob of sugary, salty, fat, any day!
